World Beekeeping

Since we started this world beekeeping website we have had visitors from visitors in over 19,000 cities in over 200 countries around the world! We're simply fascinated that people in all corners of the world, in every different climate and culture are reading the pages on our website.

I know that much of the information on here is associated with America, California in particular. It occurred to me that I should be covering beekeeping techniques and ideas in other parts of the world.

I need your help! I would like to hear from people beekeeping around the world, I want to know how beekeeping is practiced wherever you live. Please remember to tell use where you live, or where the story takes place.

I know from my personal experience that beekeeping in England is very different from America where I now live. For example there are, I think, about 8 or 9 different types of hives used by British beekeepers, whereas almost all Amercan bees live in Langstroth Hives, with a few in Kenya Top Bar Hives (KTBH) and even fewer in Warre Hives. In less developed parts of the world, beekeeping uses much less sophisticated hives such as hollow logs.

The techniques which hobby beekeepers use are different, much of what the English amateur beekeeper does is concentrated on prevented their colonies from swarming. In the United States many beekeepers have to protect their hives from skunks, raccoons and bears. We would love to hear what other ideas, practices and challenges beekeepers deal with in other places. Maybe you're commercial beekeeping in the tropics, the Himalayas or a hobby beekeeper who is a member of the British Beekeeping Association, we want to hear from you.

Please use the form below to tell us anything which is specific to your part of the world, beekeeping, or something you've seen which is specific to one part of the globe. Don't feel you have to use English, although we'll be delighted if you do. If you would rather type your piece in Swahili, Hebrew, Russian, Hindi or Arabic please do so. English speaking visitors can use the Translation feature at the top left corner of this page to translate it. Just be aware that I will not be able to edit it so will publish it just the way you type it.

Make sure you include your email address so we can notify you when it is posted on the website. You'll want to tell your friends that you have a page on our website so they can put their comments.
