Website Linking

Website linking is one of the factors which make a website successful. The most important factor is, of course, its visitors. It sounds obvious but there is more to it than you might first imagine. To enable people to find the website it has to be indexed by search engines and directories, you can help with that.

One of the most important criteria the search engines use to rank a website, is the number of links it receives from relevant websites. Clearly if webmasters from great websites, with useful content about the subject, link to another site they're giving it a 'vote' which the search engine sees and evaluates.

Sometimes it's tricky to work a link into a page, but if the link is relevant it's usually possible to come up with a plausible link. A link from a 'Resource Page' or 'Page of Links' is not nearly as good as a soul link from a page because the search engine's 'vote' is divided by the number of links on the page. So a page which has website linking to two websites gives 50% of that 'vote' to each site, five links on a page gives each destination 20% of that 'vote'. A single link gives the destination website 100% of that 'vote'.
