The BEEginning of BEEing

The Guard of the Hive: Checking passports and taking names.

About a week ago (early June in Oregon) we noticed a swarm of bees clumped in a ball hanging from a branch on the side of the road to our lake.

There is a beekeeper that lives across the highway from us and I'll venture a guess that this swarm may have come from there.

We happened to have some old bee boxes that were stored in an old shed on the property. We dropped the hive box below the branch and tapped the branch, dropping the swarming mess of bees into the box.

It has been a week and the hive seems to be working hard to make their house a home.

I have thus become fascinated with the art of beekeeping and believe that I may have ventured into an addicting but rewarding hobby. Enjoying the bees up close keeps me intrigued and I hope to learn a lot just by simple observation.

I have enjoyed the 7 day beekeeping course. Thanks so much for the information you have provided here and I look forward to much more research as time goes on.

Hi Khalen

Thank you so much for a great submission, and thank you for you kind comments. I feel proud to have been, in some small way, instrumental in starting you on the fascinating path of beekeeping.

The very best of luck!
