Rent Bees or Become Beekeepers?
by Meredith
(Liveoak, FL)
| We have ten acres of property and have 6 pecan trees, 1 plum, 2 fig, 3 peach, 3 pear, 1 persimmon, dogwoods and a large vegetable garden. We would like bees to pollinate these but I am worried, as of reading only 5 lessons it may be too complicated for us country bumpkins. So the question is can we rent bees from a beekeeper? |
Hi Meredith
You could certainly contact local beekeepers and ask them if they would like to keep some hives on your land. Many beekeepers are on the lookout for locations they can keep hives. I would doubt you would have to pay anything, it's a mutually beneficial arrangement. However I would suggest you don't give up yet.
Learning anything new is often daunting.
If you decide to go ahead and start beekeeping I recommend you contact local beekeepers anyway and join a bee club or association of there is one. Once you see that there are many people just like you, who also have misgivings, you'll realise you can do it.Remember the bees have been keeping themselves for millions of years. If you become a beekeeper you'll just be giving them a helping hand, for which you'll get their pollination services, and some of their delicious honey.
Finish our Free Beekeeping Course and try not to get too bogged down in the detail.
Good luck and happy beekeeping!
