Padres Bee SwarmOn Wednesday of this week a Padres bee swarm delayed a game for 52 minutes while a 'beekeeper' was called to exterminate them!
I CANNOT BELIEVE that a swarm of bees was destroyed in front of thousands of baseball fans on Wednesday evening! How many more people that saw the incident on TV now have the message that it is necessary or advisable to treat a swarm of bees this way? I was horrified and disgusted! I remove bees ALIVE all the time.
Haven't they heard that WE NEED HONEY BEES, and that bees are in serious trouble. What kind of message does this send to the public? I know people were frightened by the bee swarm but if they had called a true BEEKEEPER, not an EXTERMINATOR, the bees would have been removed humanely, alive, without the risk of those stray bees which remained after the exterminator sprayed them. Beekeepers DO NOT exterminate bees! Something had to be done quickly, yes of course, but exterminating them took as long as collecting them, but stirred the remaining bees into a frenzy. Richard Andersen, Executive VP, Ballpark Management & General Manager/PETCO Park, called me in response to my email. He was very keen to get the facts and I'm sure in future they will try to take the socially responsible action. PLEASE Mr Garfinkel next time call a professional beekeeper and do the right thing!!!! Put my number on speed-dial! Even if I can't come quickly enough there are a network of beekeepers who would respond straightaway in circumstances like these. Here's the full story - No need to kill the Padres bee swarm, which appeared on San Diego News Network. See the Padres Bee Swarm clip for yourself!
