Honeycomb in Hive
Build in Just a Few Days

This is honeycomb in hive after only a few days. When a swarm takes up residence in a new location, such as this hive, it has to start building combs as soon as possible.

It's as if the newly swarmed bees have a compulsion to produce beeswax and build honey combs. Sometimes when I've taken a bee swarm home in a cardboard box, even though they have only been in the box for a few hours, there will already be a tiny piece of comb honey attached to the inside of the lid.

These bees had only been in this nucleus hive box for about a week. Already they have not only built some combs, but have collected pollen and nectar to feed the young larvae which are already being hatched in the brood cells.

This probably what prompted people to coin the term 'busy as a bee'. It's really an inspiration to see the incredible energy and industry the bees show in these circumstances. Bees wax of course has been used for hundreds of years to make beeswax candles. Religious organizations have been using bees wax candles for thousands of years, they are far superior to candles made from tallow or other animal products.
