Bee Hive Built in a Tree

Bee Hive Built in a Tree

Have you ever seen honeybees build a nest in a tree hanging from a limb?

We have a honey bee nest about 12" x 18" about 50 ft. up in a tree.

Hi Clyde

Yes I do see hives like this from time to time. The weather here in San Diego is very good for honey bees. It doesn't seem to me to be very sensible to build a honeycombs in such a position, but the bees often do things which puzzle me. I really can't see how bees in such a position can defend themselves against wasps, hornets and other predators. It must also be very difficult to regulate the temperature of the hive.

I have a web cam with which you can view an exposed colony.
