Foreclosed Home with Busy Bee Sitting Tenants.

by Sunny Hill
(Richmond CA )

I am shopping for real estate and went to see a home that's been foreclosed for 380 days, in an urban area in Richmond CA. All the windows were boarded up on the outside with plywood to prevent break-ins.

When the agent and I walked into the living room with our flashlights, I saw a large honeycomb covering a space 4 feet by 2 feet on the outside of the living room window. Between the plywood and the outside glass (about a 2" space) a colony of honeybees had moved in!

My agent, a large 6' 5" guy, jumped back, I on the other hand, felt I was at a science exploratorium with a honeybee observation hive! Safely on the inside of the house, we watched the bees work through their tunnels.

I'm hoping to buy the property so will just move the colony to a better site further away from the house. Perhaps I'll even take up beekeeping and become a beekeeper!
