I've switched over from ten frames to 5 this year and it is great, lots of build-up.

If you think about it, two five frame hives have two working queens rather than a ten frame hive with one working queen.

The 'dormant' bees in the winter will cluster better with less room for chill, just think a heater in a big room or a heater in a small room, it's common sense!!! Bees do better tighter!
