Dead bees on beaches
by: Anonymous

Although only a perception, it appears that the number of instances have increased with a general decline in overall honey bee population in recent years. This is certainly something worth a formal study. One would expect some randomness (eg- a few rather than 100's to 1000's) dead on the beach.

Have beekeepers noticed any behavioral changes in their hives when rented to genetically modified fields or fields treated with particular pesticides?

It would be helpful if the beekeeping associations start polling for some data as I believe they are the indicator of potential issues.

Thanks!

[I don't think the few dead bees found on beaches have anything to do with the decline of beehives across the US and Europe!

Bees on the beach

I have been wondering this too. I don't remember so many bees on the beach as a child. With the disappearance of bees all over the world these days, I would expect more concern that so many are being found on the shore lines. It is very sad to see.
