Beekeeping Equipment and Beekeeping Supplies

When trying to find out how to start beekeeping it's certainly possible to find cheap beekeeping equipment locally and search online for such places as the eBay auction site for items associated with bees and beekeeping. In most places there isn't a specialist bee equipment dealer so it's usually necessary to buy things by mail order. To help you decide what basic beekeeping equipment you really need, go here.

I like to deal with smaller companies such as Back Yard Hive. They are usually beekeepers themselves and so have a better understanding of the challenges which a new beekeeper is likely to be facing.

Protective beekeeper clothing, bee suits are a big consideration for new beekeepers. I've used a number of different bee suits, to see information of various types of beesuits go to the bee-suit page.

Use this box to search for information on this and other specialist sites for all things to do with bees, beekeeping and bee removal. If you're near San Diego and are looking for established hives of bees click here.

Auction sites such as eBay are great places to research and buy beekeeping supplies, just be wary about anything secondhand, used beekeeping equipment might carry disease. Of course you can always build a beehive or look for bee hives for sale. It's probably better for a novice to buy their first hive and equipment from a specialist dealer. Click here to go to eBay and check out beekeeping equipment.

Equipment can also be purchased from companies around the country, indeed the world. If one does an internet search there are many places on the web which can supply equipment. From something as small as a queen catcher to a huge honey extractor.

The
Beesource Forum has a for sale page and has an wealth of information and guidance. If you cannot find any help on the problem in hand just post a question and the many visitors will usually be happy to offer their opinions. Beekeepers are rarely at a lose for an opinion.

I have used Dadant & Sons Inc. many times to order equipment, both for collection and mail-order shipment.

I have also used Betterbee and been impressed with their service and found them quick to respond and very helpful.

There are many suppliers which carry bee equipment, look out from something like, 'Busy Bee Tools'.

The Kenya Top Bar Hive is becoming more and more popular. It has many advantages over the Langstroth hive and few disadvantages. Gold Star Honeybees make a top bar hive kit for self assembly.

Of course if you live near enough to a supplier to collect, depending on the price of gas, it's probably better to collect instead of having it shipped. Just make sure their prices aren't so inflated that it wipes out the saving on shipping.

Specialist suppliers are usually very knowledgeable and helpful. I have found them very willing to assist and advise the novice beekeeper.
