Bee Invasion
by Kelly
(Oak Harbor)
Im new to Island County.
Just rented a Farm house and my neighbor has bee boxes on his property. I am aware of the need for bees and their importance but I am concerned about them hiving on my laundry vent.
Just had my new laundry room hooked up and looked at the vent outside. The bees are entering the hole in the siding of the house. The property manager will most likely destroy the colony if I call them and charge a fortune to remove them. I haven't been in the home for 2 weeks, but wonder whats the harm if I let them bee?
Hi Kelly
If the bees you see are entering the laundry vent I don't think you have much to worry about. They're probably just scout bees, from a nearby hive or swarm, looking for their new location. Although a laundry vent looks attractive to the bees, there probably isn't much chance of the whole swarm moving in. I bet within a few days they will have found a better place and moved there.
If you do get bees inside some part of your apartment, I would expect that to be the responsibility of the owner or management company, not you.
I hope that helps.
